In 2008 United Media purchased the rights to Rainbow Brite and partnered with Playmates Toys to release a new line of Rainbow Brite Dolls for her 25th Anniversary. These dolls would update Rainbow Brite's look and continue her story for a new generation. The dolls were originally to be released in the fall of 2009, then scheduled for release Spring of 2010. This was then changed suddenly Christmas Eve 2009 when the dolls were spotted at Target stores.
